Lawrence – Two forums for City Commission Candidates have been set for September 17 and September 22 at Peaslee Tech Center, 2920 Haskell Avenue, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The 2 forums will be conducted by a loose-knit group of former Mayors of Lawrence. The forums will follow a broad category for each night with questions developed and posed by former Mayors.
KLWN’s own Kim Murphree will be moderating the event.
“We hope this provides the public with an opportunity to hear responses from the 4 candidates to incisive questions,” said Shirley Martin-Smith, one of the coordinators of the forums. “I would expect questions to be more directed.”
“These forums should give the candidates the opportunity to go into detail answering questions they have not seen before the event.” Mike Amyx, co-coordinator said.
“We asked former Mayors still living In Lawrence to submit questions for the candidates to answer,” Bob Moody, co-coordinator, added. “And a panel of Mayors will be posing other Mayor’s questions to the candidates.”
Voters will select 2 Commissioners from the 4 candidates, Tuesday, November 4th. Moving on from the August primary are Mike Courtney, Bart Littlejohn, Kristine Polian and Bob Schumm.
The public is invited to attend in person. The forum will also be available at Zoom, https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86082200887.
