Lawrence Police have arrested 63-year-old Aaron Blake Wright, of Lawrence, in connection with the homicide that occurred Friday morning at 1801 Massachusetts Street. Police were called to that location at 7:22 a.m. where they located a dead 35-year-old woman behind the building. She appeared to have been stabbed multiple times. The victim is also a Lawrence resident and knew the suspect.
Following witness interviews near the scene, Investigators quickly identified Wright as a person of interest. They located him shortly thereafter and transported him to police headquarters for questioning. After conducting an interview, detectives placed Wright under arrest. He will be transported to the Douglas County Correctional Facility, where he will be booked on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Douglas County District Attorney Dakota Loomis was briefed at the scene and is awaiting a charging affidavit, which investigators will submit once the information has been compiled.
The investigation remains ongoing.
