Lawrence, KS: Lawrence Blue Santa is asking you to help police solve a murder mystery, and support kids and community members in need – all at the same time.
If you’ve never heard of the Lawrence Blue Santa Program, that’s because they do wear those recognizable officer blues, but just like Santa, they sneak in and sneak out — with little fanfare — leaving smiles and gratitude behind.
In 2011, a group of men and women from the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department founded the program to help people they meet on the streets during times of crisis. The program has greatly expanded since then. They now also fund the LKPD “Lights On!” program, which allows officers to skip the expensive citation and hand out a voucher to get equipment violations fixed for free. The volunteers also fund our summer Police Camps for kids. But unlike the ‘real’ Santa, Blue Santas are out and about 365 days a year, providing aid to those experiencing financial hardships, unexpected challenges, or moments of crisis. They deliver meaningful assistance where it’s needed most. From holiday gifts to basic necessities, the Lawrence Blue Santas aim to bring relief, joy, and hope to those we serve.
You can help in a very fun way by assisting officers in solving a case* at their “I love the 80’s to Death” murder mystery fundraiser.
