LDCFM Responds to a Structure Fire Displacing Residents of Six Apartment Units Lawrence, KS
On February 5th, 2025, at approximately 2:46 AM, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical (LDCFM) units were dispatched to a structure fire at 1821 W. 26th Street. Initial reports to the Douglas County Emergency Communications Center indicated that a porch was on fire and that passersby could see flames from Iowa Street. At approximately 2:51 AM the first LDCFM fire apparatus arrived on scene and observed heavy smoke and fire on the exterior of the apartment building.
The flames extended from the first floor to the third floor. At approximately 3:07 AM two additional LDCFM units were requested to assist in providing additional response support. A total of 5 fire apparatus, 3 medic units, and 2 Operations Chief Officers responded (27 total firefighters). Residents of six apartment units were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The remainder of the residents that were evacuated were able to return to their apartments.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by LDCFM investigators.
