Superintendent Dr. Anthony Lewis announces his appointment of Chief Operations Officer Dr. Larry Englebrick to serve as Deputy Superintendent, effective immediately, pending school board approval. Dr. Englebrick joined our district as executive director of facilities and operations in March of 2021. The superintendent promoted him to interim chief operations officer in 2021-2022 and removed the interim title in 2022. “Dr. Englebrick has a wealth of knowledge and experience with staffing, finance, teaching and learning, facilities and operations, project management, and educational leadership.
His outstanding leadership skills will continue to be of great assistance to the school board and community during the searches for interim and permanent superintendents, both of these transitions in leadership, and beyond,” said Dr. Lewis. Dr. Englebrick previously served as the director of facilities and operations for the Kansas City, Missouri schools for 11 years, taught at the high-school level in the Shawnee Mission schools for three years, and served as the Kansas State Department of Education’s deputy commissioner of the division of school innovations for one year.
His prior experience includes serving as an assistant superintendent for business services (2001-06), executive director of instructional support (1997-2001), and a high school principal (1989-97) and teacher (1978-82), all in the Kansas City, Kansas schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Kansas. “I am honored and look forward to the opportunity to continue serving our students and staff. My priority will be to maintain our district’s focus on supporting the needs of the individuals hard at work within our schools. In my three years here, I have found Lawrence Public Schools to be an excellent school district with staff at all levels dedicated to doing the best we can for our students,” said Dr. Englebrick. This change in responsibilities follows the evaluation of open administrative positions and district needs, as part of an ongoing budget planning process. ##
