Memorial service for Allan Carlisle Easum, 87, Lawrence, will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The Easum family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday before the service.
Mr. Easum died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at his home.
He was the third of nine children, born October 20, 1926 on a farm near Toronto, Kansas in rural Woodson County, to Allan Clyde and Hildred B. Carlisle Easum. He had ten years of schooling in Quincy, Kansas. The family moved to Lawrence in 1942 and he graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1944.
Mr. Easum served two years in the United States Army Infantry during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific area. He worked at Pickens Brothers Machine Works and Morgan Mack Ford. Mr. Easum opened and operated Ace Steering & Brake Service from July of 1963 until his retirement.
He loved working horses and contesting pulling ponies for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Dorsey Liberty Post #14 and VFW Alford-Clarke Post 852.
He married Dorothy McCall on September 24, 1948. She died November 28, 2004.
Survivors include 2 sons, Gerald Allan Easum and Daniel Clark Easum; 5 grandchildren, Stacy Potter, Andy Easum, Amy Domann, Audrey Nelson, and Erin Easum; 2 step-grandchildren, Summer Sheet and Mandy Lawrence; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister, Nelda Hodson.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Chuck, Norm, Roy, Cloyce, and Darrel Easum; 2 sisters, Donna Reynolds and Eva Icks.
The family suggests memorials to the Allan C. Easum Vocation Scholarship fund for Perry High School, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana, Lawrence, KS 66044.
