Douglas County to Analyze Forest Resources

A public meeting this week will reveal the results of a summer 2012 study of forest resources in Douglas County.  Lawrence city officials say the study was carried out by the Kansas Forest Service and the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Department.  The USDA Forest Service will assist in presenting the findings to the public.

Officials say the study of local forest resources will be used to create a better understanding of the area forest and the services and values it provides.  Local leaders, planners and residents can also use the results to develop long-term management plans and policies that will protect and preserve trees for future generations.

The public meeting is Thursday, May 9, 6:30pm, at the Helen Dreher Building on the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper Street, Lawrence.
