Another jersey is going into the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse. The University of Kansas has announced they will retire the jersey of KU basketball alum Mario Chalmers. The ceremony will happen during halftime of the KU vs. Texas game February 16.
Among his accolades during his time at KU, Chalmers was named 2008 Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. His game-tying three point shot known to KU fans as "Mario's Miracle" helped the Jayhawks on to an eventual overtime win against Memphis to take the national championship.
Chalmers now plays in the NBA with the Miami Heat, the team that won last year's NBA title. Chalmers is now only the second Jayhawk to win an NCAA and NBA title in their career (Clyde Lovellette the other).
Chalmers also becomes the second Jayhawk in the Bill Self era to have his jersey retired (joining Wayne Simien).
