Health Department's Temporary Closures Continue

Officials with the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department have announced they will close their offices and clinic for three periods of time in the month of December, for staff training as it prepares to implement a new electronic medical record system.

The temporary closures are scheduled as follows:

December 4, 8:30am-1pm;

December 5, 8:30am-1pm;

December 26, 8:30am-1pm.

Officials say the Health Department will be using Netsmart Technologies' Insight system. More than 130 public health organizations and 10 state health departments use it across the country.

Jennie Henault, Director of Administrative Services, says the new system would help improve operational efficiencies by integrating the flow of information across all areas of the Health Department, including Clinic Services, Environmental Health, and Child Care Licensing. Officials say the new system will also enable staff members to better track and report time-sensitive information.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department provides services for more than 10,000 people each year.
The new system is scheduled to be activated January 2, 2013.
