Authorities are now offering a cash reward in their ongoing criminal investigation into a string of fires in the south-central part of Lawrence. Multiple agencies are involved in the case, including the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department, the Lawrence Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. There have been no injuries reported in connection with these fires.
The ATF has announced a cash reward of $2,500 for anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for these fires in question. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fire Medical Department (785-830-7065)...the Lawrence Police Department (785-830-7430)...or the TIPS Hotline at 785-843-TIPS (8477). Callers can stay anonymous if they so choose.
As the investigation continues, fire authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and ensure their smoke alarms are working and that all combustible materials are removed from hallways and exit ways. Residents should also practice exit drills with family members.
