The roadway in city leaders' sights is this: the K-10, a major traffic carrier between Lawrence and Johnson County. It's also the site of an increasing number of accidents -- some of them fatal, many of them caused by drivers who are going too fast. Now, Lawrence is making an increase in speeding fines on K-10 one of its priorities for the upcoming legislative season. Lawrence wants K-10 to be designated a Highway Safety Corridor, meaning the state can jack up speeding fines in that stretch of highway. The money from the increased fines would then go to providing more frequent patrols and, hopefully, slowing...things...down.
