Emerging plan would do away with 105 county and district attorneys
Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor is working on a plan that create elected attorneys —31 in total-- one for each of Kansas’ judicial districts.Taylor says that would make the state’s criminal justice system more efficient and create more accountability. His plan for now calls for each county to elect the attroney and that county would also determine how much the job would pay. Taylor has brought the idea to the Shawnee County legislative delegation, but the nine members still have questions—like how would it affect people who live right on the boundary lines between two districts, and how many jobs could be eliminated because of it.
