Veterans could became eligible for in-state tuition rates

A new twist is being proposed to how "in-state residents" are defined for university tuition charges...

What if any veteran who serves a certain length of time on active duty became eligible for in-state tuition rates at Kansas universities? That's the idea proposed by K-U sophomore Sara Sneath, who's asking the Kansas Legislature next session to pass a bill that would allow all honorably discharged veterans who served at least 36 months on active duty to be treated as in-state residents. She’s been working with House Minority Leader Paul Davis of Lawrence to draft such a bill, which is similar to one passed in Arizona last year. Sneath says changes in the G-I Bill put veterans at risk for higher tuition payments when they leave the service.
