A Mexican national accused of growing marijuana that supplied much of eastern and northeastern Kansas is headed to prison...
Authorities say they first noticed a large, open field of marijuana after it had been abandoned for the winter last year. Then, they flew over it again in May and saw that cultivation had resumed. Investigators say they determined that 42-year-old Marcelo Parra-Ocmo had been recruited from Mexico specifically to tend the field. They said he lived in the area and even had a son in high school. Parra-Ocmo has now been sentenced to three years in prison. His minor son along with another Mexican national were also arrested and face sentencing in January.
