An important step in the building of a major traffic system in Lawrence is about to get underway...

The Kansas Department of Transportation says it's about to start acquiring land for construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway. Owners of property that will be taken over for the roadway will start receiving notices this week. Next month, K-Dot staff will start staking out those properties. The three-point-seven billion dollar South Lawrence Trafficway has been years in the planning and acquisition of the property will clear the way for construction to begin in 2013. When it's finished, the Trafficway will include six miles of four-lane traffic.
