The city of Lawrence has a request for the Thanksgiving cook in your home.
With all the cooking you’re bound to be doing, grease just seems unavoidable. But the Lawrence Utilities Department is asking you to keep the grease out of the drain and the garbage disposal. The agency says even if you’re flushing it down the line with lots of hot water, sooner or later that grease is going to gel up in a line. Then it coats the line and can cause restrictions in wastewater flow. And that may mean a call to the plumber, and who needs that over the holidays? Instead of dumping it down, the drain, they ask you to put it in a sealed container and stick it in the trash. If you’ve got a whole lot of grease, you can call to make an appointment to drop it off with the City of Lawrence / Douglas County Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
