Arts Center will not host Children's Holiday Shop in 2011

A group of churches are coming in to save Christmas for hundreds of Lawrence kids.

The Children’s Holiday Shop has normally been held at the Lawrence Arts Center. What usually happens is that hundreds of children come in and get free vouchers and then pick out gifts to give to their families, friends, and pets. BUT, this year the Arts Center has decided not to host the event. So now a dozen area churches that make up a group called the Lawrence Youth network are stepping up to fill the void. They’ll be holding it at New York Elementary School on December third...but the pressure is really on, because they have less than one month to make it happen. They need donations to purchase about 8,000 gifts and volunteers to do the wrapping. It's a large undertaking that the LAC says typically costs them around $10,000.
