New technology means fewer potholes in Lawrence

Does your ride around Lawrence seem a little smoother? It’s not your imagination. KLWN’s Jill Nado explains.

City street crews are reporting they’re on track to do 42 percent fewer pothole repairs this year than last. Thanks go to new money and new technology. Crews got more money from the city’s maintenance program, so they can tackle cracks faster and avoid seeing holes get created in the first place..…and a new spray injection truck has been making a big difference, too. It allows crews to create what’s called a hot mix asphalt right on the spot, rather than a cold mix. That hot mix asphalt creates a patch that’s stronger and lasts longer.
