Kansas churches may be getting asked to help bolster the state’s adoption rate. KLWN’s Jill Nado explains.
The head of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services says he’s working to boost adoptions of children in state custody. SRS Secretary Rob Siedlecki says he wants to see something like Chicago’s old "One Church, One Child" program to recruit adoptive parents. That program encourages couples to adopt. Once that happens, a church agrees to act as a support system for the new family. Church members would help by giving rides, coaching, clothing donations and the like.
