First the state, and now the feds are cutting funding for art in Kansas. KLWN’s Jill Nado has more.
When Governor Sam Brownback vetoed state aid to the Kansas Art Commission, he left the agency with no staff and no budget, but he said a new non government foundation could help. And it would still be eligible for funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Now the NEA says no...the state’s action means the NEA can’t issue a partnership grant for this upcoming year. Previously, Kansas would invest about 700-thousand dollars a year in the arts, and that would make the state eligible for over a million dollars in grants from other agencies, including the NEA.
