Kanrocksas to Feature Lawrence and Topeka Bands

Some homegrown Kansas reggae will be rocking the start of Kanrocksas today. KLWN’s Jill Nado has that story.

A band born in Topeka—Soul Rebel and the Beast—kicking off this weekend’s Kanrocksas music festival at the Kansas Speedway. Soul Rebel used its reggae ways to charm themselves to the top of a battle of the bands competition to get the honor. They beat out 13 other groups to get the spot on the Kanrocksas roster. Soul Rebel will appear on the main stage inside the Speedway starting at 1:30….they’ll be the first of 20 acts to appear. Other performers include Lawrence band Dumptruck Butterlips.  Dumptruck recently won both the local and state finals of the Texaco Country Showdown. A national country music talent contest that was hosted locally by 92.9 The Bull.  Later tonight Eminem and Muse will perform at the Kansas Speedway.
