Lawrence trees being examined

Do you have any idea what kind of trees are in your neighborhood? Lawrence officials want to know. KLWN’S Jill Nado has that story.

Trees are being measured, categorized and dumped into a database all over Lawrence. The Parks and Recreation Department is doing a tree inventory, saying it’ll be handy in case of storm damage, if there are high risk trees out there, and to find out which trees may need more maintenance than others. It will also help to create reports for federal assistance if there was a natural disaster. And they’re not just getting out there with a tape measure and a botany book…they’re using software called TreeWorks, to store, manage, analyze and display data.
