Show 10 - Connecting to Lawrence Visitors, 2018 Preview
The December edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour spends some time in year-end reflection, but it's quickly on to the new year and new goals for giving people the Lawrence experience! Joining Eric Holcomb and Michael Davidson today: Porter Arneill, Director of Communications and Creative Resources for the City of Lawrence, with information about the Transient Guest Tax Grant program. Also on the show, Andrea Johnson and Kim Anspach of Explore Lawrence look at the data of 2017 to see how people are finding Lawrence experiences, and look ahead to strategies in the new year--including the concept of AI marketing.
Show 9 - Short Term Rentals
The November edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour devotes the entire show to learning more about short term rentals (including Airbnb and others). What is a short term rental? How do they work? Are they allowed in Lawrence? What are the potential positive and negative impacts? Can it be regulated, and if so, how? The City of Lawrence and the Lawrence City Commission have been gathering information and public input on the industry, and will have a work session to discuss proposed pieces to the regulation of short term rentals. On the show today: Lawrence City Commissioner Matthew Herbert, and Danielle Buschkoetter from the City of Lawrence. (Aired and recorded November 14, 2017)
Show 8 - Arts and Cultural Tourism
The October edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour is all about the arts. From the streets to City Hall, we talk about the vibrant arts scene of Lawrence large and small, from individual winners of the Phoenix Awards, to the galleries and concert venues that bring us the visual and musical arts. Guests include the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, the Cider Gallery, and the Granada to give us a sample cross-section of the current arts scene. BJ Harris of Explore Lawrence guest hosts.
Show 7 - Agritourism
The September edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour takes us across the fields of Douglas County to see what farmers, ranchers, and local producers are creating for Lawrence and its visitors. Learn about all the farmers markets in the county, the growing wine industry in the area, the farm-to-table concept, and the Kaw Valley Farm Tour!
Show 6 - Cultural and Historic Tourism
The August edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour takes us back to the beginnings of Lawrence. We talk with members of the Watkins Museum to learn about the network of historic places ready for visitors across the county, ranging from Quantrill's Raid events and key pieces of the Civil War, to 20th Century history and current exhibits (also learn about a "museum hack").
Also on the show, a discussion with the DeBruce Center about its first year housing the original rules of basketball, and its draw for basketball fans across the country.
Finally, a solar eclipse primer from organizers and participants in KU's eclipse event. Find out when, where, and how (special glasses!)

On this July edition of The Explore Lawrence Hour, a discussion of the arts industry and its many impacts on the community. Porter Arneill is the Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Lawrence, and has some major takeaways from a new report called Arts & Economic Prosperity 5.
Mike Logan wears many hats and knows all things Mass Street, and today talks of the downtown benefits following two successful Live on Mass concert events.
Kimberly Williams, CEO of the Lawrence Arts Center, recaps the Free State Festival and talks about the role of an arts center to the community.

It's Great Outdoors Month! On this show, the Explore Lawrence Hour features several great opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Lawrence area, including the Kansas River, the Lawrence Loop, and the Gravel Grinder Championship.

On this program, an in-depth look at the efforts behind the upcoming USA Track and Field Junior Olympics, an event that will feature 8,000 athletes and an estimated 30,000 visitors to the Lawrence area July 24-30, 2017.
