KLWN Special Series: Lawrence Public Library

This month marks a significant event in Lawrence History, as reconstruction of the long-established Lawrence Public Library celebrates its Grand Opening July 26 with the people of Lawrence. In the month of July, KLWN is presenting a special series of conversations devoted to the many perspectives of our community's library: its rich history, its services and staff, and its bold vision for the future as it soon opens anew. Today we welcome Sean Zaudke and Steve Vucalich of Gould Evans, and Mark Green of B.A. Green, to talk about the building itself, from the concepts of design to the materials used in creating the vision, outdoors and indoors.

Fred the Preparedness Dog

This morning we had special guest Fred the Preparedness Dog from KDHE on air to join us in our conversation about pet safety for the 4th of July and overall emergency preparedness. Michael McNulty brought Fred over from Topeka, and shared the story on how Fred came to be an ambassador to kids across Kansas for learning disaster preparation. Jillian Rodrigue from Douglas County Emergency Management also joined in the conversation to help go over important safety reminders this time of year with regards to both fireworks and severe weather.
